Brewers' Magic Number Down to 3 After Slugfest Win Over D-Backs

Milwaukee's Bats Come Alive in High-Scoring Affair

The Milwaukee Brewers took a big step towards clinching a playoff berth on Tuesday night, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 15-8 in a slugfest at American Family Field. The win gives the Brewers a magic number of three to clinch the National League Central Division title.

The Brewers jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning off D-Backs starter Merrill Kelly. Milwaukee added two more runs in the second inning and three more in the third to take a 8-0 lead.

The D-Backs finally got on the board in the fourth inning with a two-run home run by Josh Rojas. Arizona added two more runs in the fifth inning to cut the Brewers' lead to 8-4.

The Brewers responded with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 11-4. The D-Backs got two runs back in the sixth inning, but the Brewers put the game away with four more runs in the seventh inning.

Christian Yelich led the Brewers' offense, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs. Willy Adames also had a big night, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Rowdy Tellez and Hunter Renfroe each added two hits and two RBIs for Milwaukee.

Kelly took the loss for the D-Backs, allowing eight runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Madison Bumgarner started for the Brewers and allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings. Brad Boxberger, Hoby Milner, and Matt Bush combined to allow four runs on six hits in four innings of relief.
