Cyber Attack on German Opposition Party Highlights Growing Threat

CDU Affected, Investigation Underway

Germany's leading opposition party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has been hit by a major cyber attack.

The attack, which took place just one week before the European elections, has forced the CDU to shut down its IT systems and has raised concerns about the security of the upcoming vote.

According to the German Interior Ministry, the attack was "serious" and is being investigated by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).

The CDU has not yet released any details about the attack, but sources close to the investigation say that it was carried out by a "sophisticated" group of hackers.

The attack on the CDU is the latest in a series of cyber attacks that have targeted political parties in Europe in recent months.

In February, the computers of the French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron were hacked, and in March, the website of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) was taken down by a DDoS attack.

The increasing number of cyber attacks on political parties is a major concern, as it could undermine the integrity of democratic elections.
