Fashion and the Catholic Imagination

Upcoming Exhibition and Met Gala to Explore the Intersection of Fashion and Religion

New York, New York - May 8, 2018

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met) has announced an upcoming exhibition and Met Gala themed Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, scheduled to run from May 10 to October 8, 2018. The exhibition and accompanying gala will delve into the historical and contemporary relationship between fashion and the Catholic Church, exploring the ways in which religious imagery, symbols, and aesthetics have influenced fashion design through the centuries.

The exhibition will feature over 150 garments and accessories from the Met's collection, as well as loans from other museums and private collections. The pieces will be organized around various themes, such as "Heavenly Bodies," "Pilgrimage and Devotion," and "The Virgin Mary." The exhibition will also include a special section on the Met Gala, which has become one of the most anticipated fashion events of the year.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event that benefits the Costume Institute. This year's gala will be co-chaired by Rihanna, Amal Clooney, Donatella Versace, and Anna Wintour. The event is expected to attract a star-studded lineup of celebrities and fashion designers.

The Fashion and the Catholic Imagination exhibition and Met Gala promise to be a major cultural event, offering a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of fashion and religion. The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog with photographs by Katerina Jebb.
